The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Eastern Region says it cannot provide relief items for the over five hundred victims of rainstorm in Akyem-Asafo, two days after the incident.
According to the Regional NADMO Coordinator, Ransford Owusu Boakye, the organization currently lacked resources to cater for the victims of the disaster.
Joy News' correspondent , Kofi Siaw reported that the Regional NADMO coordinator is waiting for the assessment report from the district coordinator, which will be forwarded to Accra for help.
Meanwhile, the victims of the disaster are currently seeking refuge with friends and relatives.
A heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds on Sunday ripped off the roofing of more than seventy households in the area.
Schools, churches and other public facilities were affected. Victims are yet to receive any assistance though officials of NADMO visited the area to assess the situation.
The Assistant Headmaster of the Asafo Senior High School, Daniel Agodo in narrating the seriousness of the flood said the school has virtually lost every equipment procured for the smooth running of the school laboratory.
The already dilapidated market that serves the people of the area and other surrounding villages also received its fair share of the disaster.
The market queen, Akua Atta, appealed for help from government to provide a convenient market place in the area.
On his part, the Chief of Akem Asafo, Nana Addo Aikins, acknowledged the efforts of government at bringing development to the area but called for more assistance.
