Founder of Kumasi-based King Faisal Football Club Alhaji Karim Grunsah has been arrested by the Airport Police, Accra for allegedly slapping a flight dispatcher working for domestic airline Antrak Air.
Alhaji Grunsah is alleged to have assaulted the dispatcher when asked to put off his mobile phone at a time the Kumasi-bound flight was about to take off.
After several unsuccessful attempts to get him off the flight, police reinforcement was called in to take him into custody.
DSP Freeman Tettey, who is with the Police Public Affairs Directorate confirmed the arrest to Joy News and said the police has started investigating the matter.
According to Freeman Tetteh, Alhaji Grunsah "has been escorted to the Airport Police station, the case has just been reported and the police will be investigating. Technically he is under arrest..."
"Based on the evidence available, the police will take the next line of action," he added.
Meanwhile, Antrak Air has confirmed the incident to Joy News. Kwaku Antwi-Bosiako, Chief Commercial Officer of Antrak Air said Alhaji Grunsah "took offense" at attempts to let him put off his phone.
After he attacked the flight dispatcher, "the captain decided that the passenger having been aggressive and assaulted our staff should be offloaded from the aircraft."
Kwaku Antwi-Bosiako further alleged that "he punched him in the first instance and even after he had been offloaded, Alhaji went back and hit our staff the second time."
The Antrak Air Chief Commercial Officer said Alhaji Grunsah will face a ban from boarding any of their flights in future.
"Until further notice, Alhaji Grunsah is barred from flying with Antrack Air. We will not accept him on any of our flights," he said.
