The acute water shortage which hit Kasoa and its environs since December last year has now worsened as residents walk several miles in search of water.
Residents in Amanfrom, Top town, American Farms, Adam Nana, Official Town, Gallelia and Washing Base are said to be worst hit.
The frustrated residents who could not afford the escalating prices of water from private tanker suppliers have been forced to fetch water from untreated sources for domestic use.
The residents say the water tanker vendors who usually sell the water do not come regularly whilst the few committed ones have taken an undue advantage of the situation to exploit residents.
A gallon of water which was sold at Ghp40 is now selling at about Ghp80 thus increasing the cost of living in the area.
The situation has inconvenienced the residents, especially women and school children as they have to walk several miles away every morning before getting water to bath and go to school or to the market.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Water Company Limited says the problem was caused by inadequate power supply from the Electricity Company of Ghana.
Stanley Martey told Myjoyonline.com the unstable power supply prevents the pumps from gathering enough pressure to supply water to many of the communities.

He also hinted that the problem has been aggravated by the high demand for water around this time of the year when the harmattan has set in.
He said currently the company’s tankers only supply water to hospitals but promised that residents will enjoy uninterrupted water supply as soon as electricity supply to the pumps is stabilised.
