A 32-year-old labourer who had sex with a 12-year-old minor who was his step-daughter has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.
Eric Yemoh charged with defilement pleaded guilty.
The court presided over by Rita Abrokwa-Doko convicted Yemoh on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant is the senior sister of the victim.
Prosecution said the convict is a step-father to the complainant and the victim and they all live together at Kojo Sardine in La, Accra.
The Prosecution said investigations revealed that the accused person has had sex with the victim before but she failed to report it to her mother because the convict had threatened her.
He said on November 24, this year, at about 2 am, while the victim and her two siblings were asleep in their room, Yemoh sneaked into the room and had sex with the victim.
The prosecution said during the act, a witness in the case saw Yemoah after peeping through a hole in the door and raised an alarm.
He said the matter was reported to the Police at La and a medical report form was issued to the victim for examination and treatment.
The prosecution said the matter was later transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit where Yemoh in his cautioned statement admitted the offence.
