A young man in his late 20s has been shot dead by unknown assailants believed to be armed robbers at Kintampo, Saturday.
Adom News’ Nana Wiafe Akenten reports that the body was seen in a pool of blood with gun wounds on the victim’s head near River Pumpu around Kyeremakoma a suburb of Kintampo in the Bono East Region.
According to sources, the victim had gone to the place to buy cashew from cashew producers whose farms are on that route.
He had already bought about two bags of the cashew and waiting to get more to load into the Motor King tricycle he was driving when a man accosted him.
The eyewitnesses say the man asked the victim for money which he did not give him. Subsequently, a struggle ensued and just then, two masked men joined the melee with guns and started shooting.
The sound of the gun made the eyewitnesses who had gone to wash their clothes in the river and others coming from their farms ran for their lives.
The police have since taken the body to the Jema Government Hospital mortuary as they start investigations into the matter.
So far, one suspect has been arrested and he is currently in police custody assisting investigations.
