Basic schools across the country say they are putting in measures to prevent a possible outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus as they resume studies this week.

Most of these schools, particularly the international ones, have a significant number of their students coming from some of the Ebola hit countries like Nigeria.

Headmaster in charge of administration at the De-Youngsters International School in Adenta, Ebenezar Teye, told Joy News a key strategy to preventing an outbreak of the disease in his school is through education.

“We are educating our children about both Ebola disease and cholera”, he explained.

Accra has been most affected by the cholera outbreak that has hit six other regions.

“Our students are mostly from Nigeria and as soon as they come we have a special thermometer to take their temperature.

“We are in touch with the Ministry of Health and they have given directives that if the temperature [of a child] is beyond 37.5 degrees celsius, we should immediately refer the child to Legon Hospital [close to the De-Youngsters school] for proper screening and treatment”, Mr Teye said.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has been distributing Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to schools and health facilities.

Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Tony Goodman told Joy News the Ministry has already begun distributing 500 of the 1,000 PPEs it has taken delivery of.
