In just one week, there have been three separate high profile cases of abuse and assault of journalists in the line of duty.
In the latest case, just yesterday, September 11, 2014, Adom FM’s Afia Pokua had her abdomen kicked, her clothes torn and sustained bruises in the brutal attack while doing her job.
The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has recorded more than ten cases of violent abuses, harassment and assault on journalists this year alone.
MFWA says Ghana is fast losing its free press status.
Daily Graphic reporter, Daniel Kenu was also recently assaulted by Baffour Gyan, brother of Black Stars' Captain, Asamoah Gyan.
So after decades of struggle to secure a truly free and independent press, is the Ghanaian society taking it for granted or is it simply a case of an irresponsible media getting what it deserves?
At the International Press Centre on Friday, host of Ghana Connect, Evans Mensah engaged influential persons in media to discuss the issue.
They included Deputy Communications Minister, Ato Sarpong; Executive Director of the MFWA, Sulemana Braimah; Adom FM News Editor, Afia Pokua; President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Roland Affail Monney and many other authorities.
