The Central Region Development Commission (CEDECOM), established to reduce poverty and facilitate development  in the Central Region has reneged on its mandate.

The Commission, which was promised 5.2 million Cedi funding in 2009 by the president John Atta Mills, has failed to establish projects earmarked to bring social and economic development to the people of the region.

The Pubic Relations Manager of the Commission, Kwetey Quainoo, has confirmed receiving “some chunk of money”, but checks by Joy News’ Correspondent Richard Kwadwo Nyarko shows, not a single project has been started.

A piggery project, documented to cost 100,000 cedis in Assin Manso, a town in the region, could not be found although CEDECOM had indicated it in its 2011 project records.

Paramount Chief of Assin Apimenim traditional area, Barimah Kwame Nkyi VII, whose land CEDECOM had earmarked for the project said he is disheartened by the Commission’s conduct.

“They have not planted even a tree here or put an axe to the ground to do anything towards piggery project here at Assin Manso”, he told Richard.

Barimah Kwame Nkyi VII said the only thing he recalls CEDECOM did was to confer with him and elders of Assin Apimenim.

When CEDECOM was contacted about the whereabouts of the piggery project, the Commission said the project has been shifted to a different area – Assin Ando.

But Richard Kwadwo Nyarko reported that the only sign of any project at Assin Ando was “an uncompleted structure that has been overgrown with weeds”.

Meanwhile, Chiefs and the District Chief Executive of Assin Manso have expressed misgivings about the activities of CEDECOM.
