Wilmar Ghana Ltd, a subsidiary of Ghana Specialty Fats Industries, has committed an amount of GH¢1 million to aid the government in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana.
The food manufacturing company has made available a package of food and cooking oil worth GH¢900,000 with GH¢100,000 dedicated to the Covid-19 Trust Fund of government.
“There is a consequential impact on the vulnerable and we felt that as a food-based company, we need to lend a hand so we have made available a package of food worth GH¢900,000. Much will be at least 5000 bags of rice and 9000 bottles of cooking oil for under dire need of these products,” the General Manager of Wilmar, Kwame Wiafe told JoyBusiness.
Receiving the donation, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah commended the efforts stating it was now time for Corporate Ghana to intensify their Corporate Social Responsibility in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Ghana’s coronavirus case count has risen sharply to 287, an update by Ghana Health Service late Monday, April 6, 2020, has revealed.
At the last count, confirmed Covid-19 cases stood at 214, implying 73 new persons have tested positive for the deadly virus. The number of deaths, however, remains five.
“The regional distribution of the cases are as follows: Greater Accra Region has most cases (258) followed by the Ashanti Region (18), Northern Region (10), Upper West Region (1), Eastern Region (1) and Upper East Region (1),” the Ghana Health Service stated on its dedicated page for Covid-19 updates.
The update further revealed that a total of 172 cases were reported from the routine and enhanced surveillance activities.
The Ghana Health Service added that confirmed coronavirus cases from travellers under mandatory quarantine in both Accra and Tamale were 115.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service said the period for mandatory quarantine for travellers who arrived from March 21 to 22, 2020 has ended.
