The Forestry Commission has donated ¢200,000 and 20 infrared thermometers to the Komfo Anokye Teaching (KATH) as its contribution to the fight against Covid-19.
The presentation of the cheque was done by John Allotey, the Deputy Chief Executive, supported by Oppong Sasu, the Executive Director of Forestry Services Division and Joyce Ofori Kwafo, Corporate Affairs and Media Relations manager on behalf of the Chief Executive, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie.
The donation, according to officials, follows an appeal by the management of Hospital to the Commission to support its endowment fund.
Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is one of the cases management centres for Covid-19 in Ashanti Region, with a focus on providing healthcare to patients who are severely and critically ill.
Officials of the Hospital have been looking for means to scale up investment drive in intensive care equipment.
According to Mr Allotey, Forestry Commission took the decision to reach out to KATH so it is able to do its best to help in the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic.
He was hopeful the donation would impact positively on healthcare delivery as KATH they use the money to buy Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
The Forestry Commission had earlier supported the Legon and Achimota Hospitals as well as the Achimota Police Station with cash and in kind.
"This donation, especially the infrared thermometers, they are items that you don't find easily around this area so we thought it right we could get them the thermometers. It would help as they would be able to test the temperatures of people who are coming into this facility," Mr Allotey said.
Dr Oheneba Owusu-Danso, one of the managers at KATH described the Forestry Commission’s gesture as timely and promised that management will make judicious use of the money.
“KATH most sincerely thanks the Forestry Commission for its benevolence and extending a helping hand to us. I call on other corporate bodies to emulate their example.”
