The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed has warned journalists within the region to stop spreading fake news that has the potential to thwart efforts made in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
His caution follows reports by some media personnel in Tamale that, information by health authorities on foreigners testing positive to the virus was false.
Receiving a donation of personal protective equipment (PPEs) from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) on behalf of the Ghana Health Service, Mr. Saeed wondered if the said journalists doubt the testing ability of the Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research.

"The whole of Ghana, it is the Kumasi testing center and Noguchi that people trust. And they have been testing for other diseases before this Covid-19, so is the journalist saying that all the results are false?" he questioned.

According to Mr Saeed, no test was conducted in the region and therefore results could not be influenced.
He was worried such publications will demoralise front line and allied health workers who have dedicated their lives to serving the people and saving lives.

He took the opportunity to thank other media houses and personnel who have joined the campaign to educate the public on Covid-19, the causes and how to prevent it.
Mr. Saeed also thanked the NPA boss, Alhassan Tampuli for his kind gesture which he said will augment government's support in the region.

The items donated include 174 PPEs, 1,800 disposable isolation blankets, 200 boxes of gloves, 25 lung exercisers and 10 pulse oximeters.
