The Managing Director of Puma Energy Distribution Ghana Limited has cautioned the public not to let their guard down after the President lifted the lockdown.
Henry Osei said Ghanaians should continue to strictly observe the protocols set out by government and health authorities aimed at curbing the spread of the novel coronavirus.
His call comes on the back of the announcement on Sunday by President Akufo-Addo easing the lockdown in Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Kumasi which has, somehow, given people the wrong impression that the danger associated with the deadly virus is over.
Mr Osei said, “We do not have to let our guards down as yet as the lifting of the restrictions does not in any way mean that the danger associated with the virus is over.”
According to him, the relaxation of the restrictions “should rather make all of us disciplined and responsible so as not to put ourselves in harm’s way or imperil the lives of those around us."
The announcement by the President sent a frenzy in some affected communities with a large section of the populace jubilating.
They were excited that life will be back to normal and they can go back to their everyday routines.
There have been reports that such actions without observing social distancing will jeopardise the fight against the virus in the country and the strides made so far.
“What we all need to do is to continue to observe the social distancing rule, wash our hands regularly with soap under running water, and use alcohol-based hand sanitisers as much as possible.”
Ghana’s caseload has so far crossed the 1000 mark with the numbers likely to go up as health authorities continue to conduct testing of thousands of samples taken.
