The Western Region has recorded eight more cases of the novel coronavirus bringing the total number of cases in the region to nine.
According to a statement signed by the Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, six of the newly recorded cases are in Sekondi-Takoradi, the capital and two in Axim, the municipal capital of Nzema East.
Giving details, he noted that six of the patients have travel history and were identified via their daily routine surveillance across the region.
“Six of them had travel history prior to closure of the country’s boarders (three from the USA, one from Belgium, one from UK and one from Obuasi in the Ashanti Region).
“Representing that, 75% of the eight cases were imported into the Western Region,” he stated.
Mr Darko-Mensah who doubles as MP for Takoradi constituency further disclosed that, the first case involving a Chinese national at the Coastal Quarry has recovered.
He added that his colleagues who were mandatorily quarantined, have all tested negative.
“They have ended the quarantine and I commend them highly for their co-operation. Nevertheless, a second sample will be taken after the quarantine to make assurance, doubly sure.”
Currently, Ghana has recorded 1, 671 cases with 188 recoveries and 16 deaths.
