Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has waded into politics by criticising the appointment of Ibrahim Gambari as President Muhammadu Buhari’s new chief of staff.

Mr Gambari is a retired diplomat who previously served in Mr Buhari's military government in the 1980s.

He replaces Abba Kyari, who died last month from coronavirus.

Many people have objected his appointment basing their argument on the fact that he is 75-years-old.

Yemi’s tweet reflects one of them.

People have tweeted their support for her sentiment, but others suggested that Yemi Alade should have looked at his experience and not focused on his age:

"We also need young minds...I never said old minds are irrelevant," she later responded.
