A group calling itself United Zongo for Bawumia in the Northern Region has warned the General Secretary of the opposition NDC to stop attacking Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
This comes after Johnson Asiedu Nketia cautioned Dr Bawumia against nursing hopes of ever becoming the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Accusing him of carrying himself as the next flagbearer of the ruling NPP, Mr Asiedu Nketia said it will impossible for Dr Bawumia to reach that feat.
He explained that flagbearers are elected based on elections and with a limited number of constituencies in his region of influence, Bawumia does not stand a chance of winning against any contestant.
But, the Group which was not pleased with the statement has advised the NDC scribe to rather focus on finding a running mate for the NDC flagbearer than interfering in the matters of the NPP.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Group’s Chairman, Mohammed Abdul Karim attributed NDC’s constant attack on the Dr Bawumia shows a lack of campaign messages.
He said the NDC still sees the Vice President as a threat and so the party always want to attack him.
“We find his statement as misguided and unwarranted. He further mentioned that impossible for Dr Bawumia to be a flagbearer of the NPP, a laughable claim, borne out of confusion, fear and pessimism.
“This was the least of worries that we expected from Mr Nketia at this time especially when the NDC is struggling to find a march for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a running mate for the flagbearer of the NDC,” he said.
