The man who severely beat his three-year-old son for bedwetting in Kumasi has been handed a 24 months jail sentence.
Ebenezer Osei Bonsu, 26, also has to sign a four-year bond of good behaviour, reports Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor.
The judge Patricia Amponsah explained in court Wednesday that she took into consideration the age of the victim, remorse shown by the accused and the fact that the child will need both parents to take care of him.
She said it is in the best interest of the child that his father is not taken away for a long time.
According to the judge, if the accused is to break his bond of good behaviour he will be serve four years in jail.
The reporter said the lawyer for the accused started his closing statements by referring the court to Proverbs 22.15.
He stated that the Bible says the heart of a child is associated with sin and it's only the cane that can remove it
He, however, told the court that unfortunately, the Bible did not state the extent to which the cane can be applied.
The lawyer said although his clients was disciplining his child, he admitted he went overboard and pleaded for mercy.
Commenting on the judgement, he said, "We can only be grateful because the facts were against us. We are only praying the judge will have pity on us and take into consideration that the father has to cater for the child."
