The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has dispelled allegation that it manipulates Covid-19 related data accumulated from regions across the country.
This comes after a pressure group, OccupyGhana expressed skepticism about the veracity of some of the figure put out by the Ghana Health Service regarding the Covid-19 cases in the country.
According to the group, some anomalies it has detected in the data cannot be a true reflection of the situation on the ground.
But responding to these claims, the Director-General of the Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye in a statement explained that thorough processes are required before the broadcast of new Covid-19 cases, hence, more time is needed.
“The reporting on data including deaths and recoveries at the National level goes beyond just numbers and includes epidemiological and clinical states of cases.
“It requires a bit more time to verify and validate. In that context, the Regional-level data will normally be higher than the national data at any given time,” he stated.
Dr Kuma-Aboagye further said that it is alright for Ghanaians to be concerned and ask questions but added that it is imprudent for them to raise it in a manner that will demoralise health workers who are at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19.
