Ghana has received grants worth $7.9 million from the Government of Japan to support the completion of phase two of the Tema Motorway interchange, among other projects.
The grants were received on behalf of the government by Deputy Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister Hon. Charles Owiredu and was issued on behalf of the Japanese Government by Japan's Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Mr. Himeno Tsutomu.
The grants is expected to improve various sectors of the country's economy including health, infrastructure, and human resource development.
Japan's Ambassador to Ghana Mr. Tsutomu at the signing ceremony indicated that the grant is a showcase of the strong Japan-Ghana friendship and partnership.
"It is the wish of the people and the government of Japan that these projects will make valuable contributions in the areas of health, road infrastructure, and human resource development," he said.
According to the memorandum of understanding, $4.5 million of the grants is expected to go into the health sector.
The money would be used to support the sector by providing equipment including CT scan, radiography System, Thermography, Ambulance, Water Tanker among others.
Another $1 million out of the 7.9 million U.S dollars is also expected to support phase two of the Tema Motorway Interchange project while 2.4 million will facilitate Human Resource Development by supporting the Japan Scholarship Scheme to Ghana.
