The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is accusing the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dormaa Central, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, a recovered Covid-19 patient of endangering the lives of his constituents when he recently involved himself in activities in the constituency.
The MP who is also the Health Minister toured his constituency, organized a press conference, and commissioned projects recently.
Dormaa Central NDC claims this happened at a time that he was fully aware of his positive coronavirus status, a move that makes him unfit to continue holding on to his ministerial position.
At a press conference in Dormaa, the deputy constituency Organiser Dominic Adoma said the action of the NPP MP, has contributed to 5 confirmed cases and left many suspected to have been infected with the virus.
He said the Minister’s visit to the municipality, two weeks after it was made public of his status, has brought fear and panic among the people of Dormaa.
“How can a true leader, whose ministry has direct oversight responsibility for the prevention and the management of this pandemic choose partisan political consideration over human lives?
"The least he could have done was to conduct open and enhanced contact tracing and probably mass testing for the people of Dormaa, especially when he had left the municipality a few weeks after the announcement of his infection”, he said.
Adoma further alleged that “rather the MP chose to deliberately handpick some of his few guys around him to undergo restricted contact tracing”, he fumed.
There were no cases of covid-19 until the MP's recent visit to the constituency, according to the NDC
“Evidence suggests that 19 people have so far been suspected to be carrying the virus with 5 confirmed cases”, Adoma alleged, adding, “the current development has caused panic and general insecurity among the people of Dormaa”.
Bono Regional Communication member of the NDC, David Atta Twum said since Carlos Ahenkorah recently resigned from his position as the deputy Trade and Industry Minister after a public backlash over his failure to isolate himself despite been a covid-19 positive, they are calling on the president to relieve Kwaku Agyemang Manu of his duties if he fails to also resign.
“We call on the President to call Kwaku Agyemang Manu off from Dormaa and again ask him to resign so that the Municipality will know that indeed Nana Akufo Addo is a listening President,” he said
