Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says Ghanaians will be informed should President Akufo-Addo test positive for Covid-19.
According to him, such a move would be in line with the President’s drive to eliminate the stigma surrounding the virus.
President Akufo-Addo has been in self isolation since July 4, 2020 following some members of his close circle testing positive for the coronavirus.
He has been performing his presidential duties from the Presidential Villa at the Jubilee House where he is isolating.
Speaking on Joy News’ Beyond the Lockdown, Oppong Nkrumah said “If he’s positive we would tell you, because the president has been on the forefront of asking people to speak up and help fight stigma.
“The President was the one who spoke up about the Health Minister’s positivity and wished him well, and if you follow his addresses he has been speaking about the need to break stigma.
“If the President was positive we would have to put it out as part of fighting the stigma associated with this.”
He also dissuaded rumours that the President has been out of the country receiving treatment.
“He has not and that is why we have right from the very beginning been proactive with the information that he was going to stay away for about 14 days.
"It is also why his office after today’s zoom call for example has even put out a video of him happily going about his business.”
