Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama is tasking government to see to the proper remuneration of Assembly members in the country.
Speaking during his 3-day visit to the Oti Region the former President said it is unfortunate that Assembly members are not well motivated despite their responsibilities.
"When you look at these Assembly members and the responsibilities they have to bear in their electoral areas, it is unfortunate that we don't motivate them by letting them be able to earn something so that they will be able to discharge their responsibilities in a much more better manner than they do now," he stated.
He cited a few instances that support the need for Assembly members to be paid well.
"Anything that happens in an electoral area, the first person they will go to is the Assembly member; If a woman is giving birth and she has delayed labour and she needs to be evacuated the first person they go to is the Assembly Member," he said.
