The North East Regional Police Command has started investigations into the reported case of shooting and subsequent burning of some dwelling huts within Kurugu near Walewale.
According to the service, a team of personnel led by the Regional Commander, ACP Moses Ali Kpeachin stormed the community on August 20, after properties belonging to some Fulani herdsmen were destroyed on August 18.
In an official report on the development, the police said, the Chief of Kurugu Community, Naa Joseph Banyisi Sulemana, and his people have been urged to assist with information which could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
The residents have also been asked to report all criminal cases to the police and not take the law into their own hands
The police report also indicated that the Walewale District Commander has agreed to arrange for another engagement with both the Kurugu Community and the leadership of the Fulani Community.

On the 20th of August 2020 in Kurugu near Walewale, the North East Regional Commander ACP Mr. Moses Ali Kpeachin together with some Officers visited the Kurugu Community following a shooting incident and the subsequent burning down of some dwelling huts belonging to some Fulani herdsmen on 18th August,2020.
The Chief of Kurugu Community, Naa Joseph Banyisi Sulemana, and his people were informed that investigations have commenced into the reported case and asked for their support in identifying the culprits.
The Chief and his people were advised to report all cases criminal in nature for the Police to investigate and bring the perpetrators to book and that, under no circumstance should citizens take the law into their own hands.
The chief and his elders promised to call their people to order. On the request of the chief and his elders, the Walewale District Commander agreed to arrange for another engagement with both the Kurugu Community and the Leadership of the Fulani Community.
