Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for the Anloga District Mr Godwin Agbenyo has called on citizens to rise and work for the development of their respective communities.
Addressing a social auditing programme organised at Genui, Mr Agbenyo said it was important for people to understand they could develop their communities on their own.
As part of the Commission's effort to engage the citizenry on the need for community development, he urged all to participate in organised projects, policy initiation and decision-making processes.
"There is the need to initiate, nurture, participate, own and take good care of the community and state-owned properties.
"We must be encouraged to participate meaningfully and keenly in the development of our community and not sit aloof waiting on others to take care of the issues.
"When that happens, we get to suffer the most."
Torgbui Age III, Dufia of Genui who chaired the event admonished the youth to direct their strengths into activities that would advance development in Genui.
The day saw the formation and inauguration of a 9-member Social Auditing Implementation Committee to oversee the execution of projects in the community.
In attendance at the programme held in the District were Traditional leaders, women groups, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Members of the local assembly, Christian groups and the youth.
