Tarkwa Nsuaem MP George Mireku Duker has accused the police of bias over their decision to grant bail to one of the suspected who was arrested for allegedly attacking his family.
About three members of the legislator’s household suffered knife injuries when alleged thugs broke into his house over the weekend.
He told JoyNews on Monday that “the police were brought in after the incident and they arrested the suspect.”
Mr Duker was a former chief who abdicated the stool to contest as MP for the area and the development has become a subject of an ongoing legal tussle.
The MP suspects it is a targeted attack over the case currently being heard at a High Court for which the recent dispute has been used as a facade.
The NPP MP is not happy with the police's decision to grant Robert Amoh bail.
He told JoyNews' Joseph Opoku Gakpo that "witnesses saw him, and he did it and he was with a team."
"If such as a person has been arrested and given bail then we need to be worried because now my family members are in the hospital as I speak. And we have people ranting around
According to him, the police had no business releasing the suspect without putting him before court adding that his Mr Amoh’s release puts his family back in danger.
"The police are also giving contradictory statements here and there and I don't know where they are getting their stories from... How can someone butcher someone and just be granted bail, how would you take it if it happened to you?"
He says they are not on top of their game adding that the suspect must be rearrested. Mr Duker says he is ready to provide the police with more evidence to assist in investigations.
"I think there is a gap [in the police's approach]... I fear for my life if the police are doing this."
