The Electoral Commission (EC) has expressed its readiness to meet with Parliament on Saturday, November 7.
This follows the inability of the Chairperson for the Commission, Jean Mensa to appear before the House on Thursday, November 5.
Parliamentarians are reported to have been enraged by the no-show and demanded that the EC boss be held in contempt of Parliament.
However, the Commission in a statement released said it is surprised by the development.
“The Commission is greatly surprised by this turn of events as notice of the said meeting was sent after office hours on Wednesday the 4th of November 2020,” the statement read.
According to the EC, at the time the letter of invitation was submitted, several Commissioners had left Accra, and this was reported to the Leadership of Parliament.
“It is also important to note that the Chairperson of the Commission has never turned down an invitation of the August House,” the statement added.
The EC concluded by saying that, “The Commission and its Leadership view Parliament as an important democratic institution and have always fully cooperated with Honorable Members.
"The Commission is fully prepared to present its comprehensive report to the Leadership and Honorable Members of the House.”
This roadmap according to the EC will be presented on Saturday, November 7.
