A driver, Mohamed Alhassan has appeared before the Kaneshie District Court on the charges of careless driving and negligently causing harm to one Kwaku Pepreh, now deceased.
Alhassan’s plea was preserved as the matter will be sent to the Attorney- General’s office for advice following the death of the victim.
The court presided over by Ms Ama Adomako Kwakye however admitted Alhassan to bail in the sum of GH¢ 15,000.00 with two sureties to reappear on February 4, next year.
Prosecuting, Inspector John Baidoo said on December 11, this year at about 1430 hours, Alhassan was driving an Isuzu Pickup with registration number GT1966-19 from Kasoa towards Lapaz.
Prosecution said on reaching a section of the road at Awoshie Water Works on the NI Highway, Alhassan failed to exercise the needed care and caution on the road thereby hitting the offside of a Hyundai Getz Taxi car with registration number 9698-20 which further run into a nearby ditch.
Inspector Baidoo said due the impact of the accident, the vehicles also hit another KIA Morning private vehicle with registration number GX3086-20 driven by one Samuel Frimpong.
Prosecution said the accident also had an impact on the driver in charge of another Hyundai Getz Taxi with registration number GW9894-20, Kweku Peprah who sustained injury and he was rushed to the Rock Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly on arrival.
Prosecution said Peprah’s body was sent to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
