President Akufo-Addo has sent the strongest indication yet about the country's stance regarding the newly-developed vaccine for the novel coronavirus.
According to him, the deployment of the product into Ghana will serve as a boost for the country's fight against the pandemic.
In the US, some healthcare workers started administering the first shots of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines which have been approved as efficient with other countries placing huge volumes of orders.
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency of the United Kingdom has also made strides in that regard.
President Akufo-Addo during his Sunday night address expressed his optimism about the development and assured Ghanaians that he was in the known and has taken steps to put the country in line to take delivery soon.
During his 20th update to the Ghanaians on Ghana's situation, President Akufo-Addo revealed that a team has been constituted under his instruction to work towards procuring some of the approved vaccines.
"To this end, I have put together a team of experts, from the relevant institutions and agencies, who are working assiduously towards the procurement and deployment of the vaccines in Ghana. The briefings held by the Ministry of Information will keep the nation updated on this matter," he added.
This was his first address on the pandemic since his re-election in the just-ended general elections.
