Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has said President Akufo-Addo must ensure that the death of the persons who were killed in the cause of the 2020 election violence
“For the first time in our history, arising out of collation of results and declaration of results, eight loss lives and he is silence on it.
“That is unacceptable, he must take responsibility, those lives needing be loss in a genuine, transparent democratic process”.
The police say there have been dozens of incidents of violence during the divisive December 7, election.
An election that both President Nana Akufo-Addo and former President John Mahama both claim to be on track for victory.
In a press release post the election, the police said the victims died in election violence in Ghana, adding there had been more than 60 incidents.
Ghana, a beckons of democracy in the sub-region was rated highly by election observers although it recorded a set-back due to the violence that characterised the polls.
Reacting to the development after President Akufo-Addo delivered his last State of the Nation Address (SONA) for his first term, Mr Iddrisu said, "Twenty-one of the incidents are true cases of electoral violence, six of which involve gunshots resulting in the death of five," it said.
He was emphatic that the President was dead silent on that, which he believes is unacceptable.
The Tamale South MP said President Akufo-Addo "must investigate it and punish people. The absence of war is not peace so he shouldn’t think all is well”.
He told Joy News' Evans Mensah that the future of such a development must not only be looked at in terms of happenings in Techiman South but rather a similar thing could happen in the future.
“Techiman South is to fight that systems must work, institutions must work, and they must work creditably and in accordance with law”.
Mr Iddrisu said there are administrative process and procedures that can be used to ameliorate our own wrongs.
