A member of President Akufo-Addo’s legal team, Frank Davies has accused the former President John Mahama and his legal team of failing to provide the number of votes garnered at the end of December 7 polls.
According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), could not defend the figures purported to have been manipulated in favour of Mr Akufo-Addo.
“They proclaimed they had won the presidential elections, gave percentages and some of them were calling the presidential candidate [John Mahama] President-elect. Some of them even urged him to form a parallel government but these are the same people who now come to court and cannot even tell how many votes they garnered and are asking for a re-run.”
He made this comment during Friday’s hearing of the 2020 election petition.
In the aftermath of the presidential polls, John Mahama rejected the outcome of the 2020 election, insisting it was flawed and the results are fictitious.
This led to a series of demonstration across the country by NDC supporters and sympathisers before a petition was filed to see redress in court.
Among other things, Mahama is seeking for runoff of the election between himself and President Akufo-Addo.
In today’s hearing, the NDC’s General-Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia took the stand to testify as a witness for the Petitioner, Mr John Mahama.
He was cross-examined by the legal representatives of the 1st Respondent, the Electoral Commission and the 2nd Respondent, Mr Akufo-Addo.
Asiedu Nketia during his cross-examination was quizzed on matters relating to the electoral figures that were being challenged in court, after presenting his witness statement.
Mr Davies noted that the General Secretary in his testimony revealed that, party agents failed to sign on to regions where it was abundantly clear the petitioner [Mahama] had won elections.
According to Mr Davies, the agents of the NDC “in the strong room decided to take a long jump when they saw that the results provided were unfavourable in their cause.”
