The Builsa North MP, James Agalga says the President must render an apology to Ghanaians for the electoral violence and death witnessed during the December 7, 2020 elections.
Speaking to JoyNews’ Kwesi Parker Wilson, the former Deputy Minister of Interior noted that Nana Akufo-Addo in his State of the Nations Address, Tuesday, should speak and admonish electoral violence.
“If I were the presidential adviser, I would have advised him to make a quick U-turn today and to apologise to Ghanaians for the eight lives that were lost.”
Following pockets of violence that ensued after the December 7 election, about right people lost their lives in clashes between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as in clashes with state security agencies.
Among the eight persons who lost their lives was a primary four pupils, Samira Zakaria met her untimely death at the NDC party’s office in the Savelugu Constituency in the Northern Region. Samaria was hit by a bullet.
Also, an 18-year-old electrician, Abdallah Ayaric from Techiman South Constituency was sent to an early grave amidst electoral violence.
The demise of these people according to Mr Agalga, calls for an independent body to investigate the several electoral deaths.
"There should be an Institute to probe into the circumstances leading to the murders of those Ghanaians."
He further stated that Akufo-Addo must announce a compensation package for the bereaved families.
