The Director of Communications for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa has blamed the present cracks in the opposition NDC on the leadership of the party.
Speaking to Newsfile host, Samson Lardy Anyenini, Mr Buaben Asomoa indicated that the stance of the National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo on the ongoing controversy has not been heard, adding that the party's Council also appears to be on the fence.
Meanwhile, Mr Ofosu Ampofo in a press release dated March 31, urged calm among the rank and file of the NDC stating that the matter "has been dealt with in a manner that will promote and strengthen the cohesion of the party and all its organs”.
However, NPP's Communications Director is of the view that the opposition party is currently facing internal opposition and division.
"You have a situation where clearly, there is a major power vacuum in the NDC...At this time, the NDC is in such a state that any individual taking any action will be taking it in pursuit of a group's agenda within the NDC.
"It is clear that there are groups in the NDC and there is a leadership vacuum. In all of this, where is the Chairman? A Council of Elders pussyfooting around, being neutral and all that," he said.
His comment is in reaction to the resignation of North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa from Parliament's Appointments Committee who cited his "principles" as the reason. His resignation was followed by criticisms of the Minority Leader in Parliament.
According to Mr Buaben Asamoa, the structure of the NDC party makes it difficult for party members to act "independently".
He believes that these attacks are also meant to force a change in the party's leadership in Parliament.
"It is a legitimate shot in seeking to dislodge Haruna [Iddrisu]. The question [is] can that succeed? I don’t think that will succeed. It will not succeed because I believe the Speaker’s side will rally to the support of the incumbent leadership.”
