The Awutu Senya East Municipal Security Council says it will roll out security measures within Kasoa and its environs, following concerns of a surge in violent crimes there.
Speaking to JoyNews’ the MCE Michael Assuman Mensah said that most of the crimes happening are not within the Kasoa jurisdiction.
However, because some of the crimes take place in neighbouring towns and Kasoan in the past gained notoriety, it has become imperative to ensure the assembly and police improve security in the area.
“People are easily culpable of identifying or giving a relative kind of location, like ‘this place near Kasoa or Kasoa Adewuka’. Adewuka is very far away from Kasoa, so, this is how we find ourselves.”
“But, the boundaries of Kasoa security is very much under control, I’ve realised that Kasoa has been associated with the murder and it is probably so because Kasoa sells in the bad news.”
His comment comes after Kasoa the town, home to people of diverse backgrounds, has been in the news in recent times for one violent crime or the other.
The latest is the gruesome murder of a 10-year-old by two teenagers who had allegedly attempted to offer him for rituals.
Suspects Felix Nyarko and Nicholas Kiki believed to be 16 and 18 years respectively, told the police after their arrest that the spiritualist demanded a human being as well as ¢5000 in exchange for riches.
In their bid to meet her demand, the duo admitted to the police that they killed Ishmael Mensah Abdallah, a family friend of the first accused, Felix.
Following their arrest, the spiritualist alleged to be at the centre of the gruesome killing was also arrested by the Central Region Police.
According to police sources, the fetish priestess was arrested at Amanase near Suhum in the Eastern Region.
The Police also arrested two more suspects in connection with the murder.
According to the Head of Public Relations at the Criminal Investigative Department (CID), the two suspects identified as Charity and Desmond Nii Adjei are both being investigated for the offence of abetment to commit crime to wit murder.
The MCE told JoyNews that although the teenagers are above the criminal liability, age 12, he does not believe they solely made such an elaborate plan to hurt the 10 year old who also happened to be their neighbour.
“There must be someone behind and because crimes like this can be cross-jurisdictional, it could that the person who encouraged them is living within my jurisdiction.”
