Multiple award-winning highlife musician, Daniel Amakye Dede has revealed that he is one of the people to have introduced his hometown, Asante Akyem Agogo to the world.
“I started selling Asante Akyem Agogo to the whole world through my music. If you recall I once mentioned in my ‘Ohohoo Batani’ song that I come from Agogo and it will always be my home. So for years, I have been selling my hometown positively to the rest of the world,” he told Becky on JoyNews' E Vibes.
Amakye Dede was installed ‘chief’ [Okyeredom I] by the Omanhene of Asante Akyem Agogo, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong in 2018.
The music legend owns an event centre, a tomato farm, a hotel and a pharmacy serving the populace at his hometown.
The 'Iron Boy' hitmaker believes his actions will speak for him better than words says he will continue in his own way contribute to the growth of his Asante Akyem Agogo.
The musician began his career in 1973 when he joined the Kumapim Royals as a composer and vocalist. This band, led by Akwasi Ampofo Agyei (AAA), had hits such as “Abebi Bewua Eso”, “Wanware Me A”, “Odo Mani Agyina”, and the seminal “Ohohoo Batani”. Dede moved to Nigeria where he had his hit “Jealousy go shame”.
He then formed his own band, the Apollo High Kings, in 1980. He dominated the highlife scene in the 1980s and 1990s and has continued to have hit songs in the 21st century.
He has headlined so many concerts locally and internationally. He has over 20 albums to his credit and has experimented with different genres; soca, calypso, lovers rock and pop music.
