Student debaters have upped their display of wits, flair, critical thinking and stagecraft as the Luv FM High School Debate gets heated.
In a high-spirited debate, St. Monica’s Senior High and KNUST Senior High used Biblical accounts for their jabs and rebuttals to argue whether indiscipline and impunity are the cause of assault by security officers.
Their motion was “The high level of indiscipline and impunity in the country, the cause of the increase in assault by security officers".
KNUST SHS used the account of Jesus Christ whipping people in the Jerusalem church to justify assault by some security officers.
But St. Monica’s used the Adam and Eve account to rebut, arguing that they had a chance to be heard when God realized their folly.
At the end of the contest, St. Monica’s beat KNUST SHS by garnering 223 points against 217.
The second contest was under the motion: "Private funding of political parties should be banned and replaced with public fund".
Kwamang Presby beat Ghana Muslim Mission with 217 points against 195.
The two schools will join four schools – Adventist Girls, Afia Kobi, Opoku Ware School and Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School – already qualified for the next stage of the contest.
Prempeh College will battle St. Hubert SHS, while Tepa SHS takes on Presby SHS, Bompata in the last group of contests in the Round of 16 is on Monday.
