Paramount Chiefs of Aflao and Somey Traditional areas in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, Adzonugaga Torgbui Amenye Fiti V and Makorso Torgbui Adamah III have urged government to ensure that the contractor working on the sea defence project along the coastline of the municipality returns to site in three months to avert another calamity.
The traditional leaders who visited communities affected by the recent tidal waves noted that another is likely to strike within the period and life would be unbearable for residents in the affected communities if there is no urgent solution.

According to Torgbui Adamah III, the current situation is nothing to be compared to what awaits the entire stretch of coastal communities in three months’ time, where the situation would be much worsening.
He noted that if the sea defense project is not started before three months, calamity might befall the coastal communities resulting to total wipe out by the sea
"What we are seeing is just something very small because when the season comes in three months, the worse can happen and my communities may be totally submerged into sea looking at the little distance between the sea and the main road," Torgbui Adamah lamented

Torgbui Adamah lamented how many families have lost their homes and properties to the sea.
He said the main road linking Aflao and Keta is in danger of being washed away and in the event of this happening, some will be inundated by the sea. According to him, subsequently, Klikor and Aflao traditional areas may also suffer the same fate.
"A major disaster is looming and we have to act fast because tomorrow maybe too late," he said

Torgbui Adamah lamented on how the Chiefs made several attempts to make the contractor return to site has proven futile.
He believes that the current situation is a result of the discontinuation of the sea defense project.
The Some traditional area is also appealing to the government to liaise with Seven Seas Salt Limited to allow the citizens who have lost their homes to the sea, put up temporary structures on parts of its concession.
The Paramount Chief for Aflao traditional area, Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V said immediate and urgent action on how to extend the sea defence wall project to the other area is needed at this critical time.

Torgbui Fiti noted that the relief items, though needed, is not what the residents need but rather a permanent solution so they can go back to their normal fishing and trading activities.
"The small food items, the GHS20, 000 and few other items cannot solve our problems but rather a permanent solution so that our people can go back to their fishing activities to feed their families,” Torgbui Fiti noted
Torgbui Fiti, however, appealed to the government to respond swiftly to the plight of the people.
