A fire outbreak at the Georgina area Stores at Makola in the Central Business District of Accra, has destroyed goods and properties running into millions of Ghana cedis.
The fire, which took over 7 hours to quench, was battled by combined personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Armed Forces using ten fire tenders.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Ellis Robinson Okoe described the fire as, "one of the toughest fires" his outfit has had to fight in recent times.
He said upon arrival, they had no access to the building because the entrance was locked .
Mr Okoe also complained of inaccessibility to hydrants within the immediate environs of the market. In addition, the Ghana water Company had locked some of the water hydrants, thus making it difficult to access water to quench the fire.
