The Executive Secretary for the National Identification Authority (NIA), Prof Ken Attafuah

The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Prof Ken Attafuah has refuted claims that paying GH¢250 for a premium service to obtain a Ghana Card, is daylight robbery.

According to him, the premium charge is backed by fees and charges regulations which have been approved by Parliament. “The premium service charge is backed by Parliament, it is not daylight robbery," he said

Prof Ken Attafuah made this statement during an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Thursday.

He also indicated that it is not compulsory for any body to obtain the Ghana Card at a premium registration center.

“Some people may like to go to a premium registration center and get the card in relative comfort and pay a fee with all the convenience that comes with it.

“It is not compulsory that a person should go to get the Ghana Card at a premium registration center. We indeed intend to establish more premium registration centers across the country to give people the option," the NIA CEO said.
