President Akufo-Addo says his government has the required programmes and policies to fix the current challenges that the country is facing.

Speaking at the 29th anniversary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday, the President stated that although Ghana has some challenges, his government is resolved to solving them.

“Yes, the nation is facing challenges and difficulties, but these challenges and difficulties can be overcome. We can overcome them because we [NPP] have the policies, programmes and we have the values that will enable us to continue our journey of development in full,” he said.

His comment comes a day after thousands of the youth thronged the streets of the Accra to vent their spleens over broken systems and unfulfilled promises by leaders of the country.

Clad in red and black, the protestors wielded placards with varying inscriptions including ‘#FixOurEducation System now’, ‘A new constitution now’, ‘Justice for Kaaka’ and ‘If Ghana was your personal property, would you run it like this?’

But President Akufo-Addo stressed that government will stay the course and will not be diverted.

“We have to continue our way forward in Ghana, we cannot accept the backsliding that takes place every now and then, it has not benefited our nation and it is not going to benefit our nation. Foundations that we are laying today for the prosperity of our nation are going to be shaken if again, through our own fault. we allow the path to progress to be diverted.

The President, whose mandate expires on January 7, 2025, expressed optimism that he will be succeeded by an NPP candidate.

He further charged party members to work hard to ensure that this becomes a reality.

“Strengthening of our Party and its organs is going to mean one thing and I am very confident that on the 7th of December, 2024 the new NPP Presidential candidate is going to win the elections.

“So our objective and responsibility are to do whatever it is necessary to make sure that victory is forthcoming,” he stated.
