The Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) will this week hold a forum on how Africa’s agricultural systems can be transformed for the better.
The 12th edition of the Alliance for Green Revolution Forum (AGRF), to be held from September 7 to 10, will bring together 10 heads of state, 30 ministers, and over 10,000 delegates virtually and in person to discuss how to improve Africa’s agricultural systems.
“Food security is a matter of national security. So AGRF is one of the leading fora where matters of African agricultural transformation are discussed. The essence of it is to inspire commitments and passion from all parties in the food ecosystem,” the Acting Ghana country manager of AGRA Bashiru Musah Dokurugu explained.
“This year’s summit will bring together a wide range of stakeholders from across Africa to discuss and fashion out how to transform Africa’s agricultural sector to ensure food security and income security at all levels,” he added.
The AGRF 2021 Summit will be a forum for unlocking the political, policy, and financial commitments and innovations that leaders on the continent have made towards achieving food security.
It is about advancing the commitments made at the Malabo Heads of State Summit and working hard to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The forum brings together a critical range of stakeholders from across Africa, including government officials, private sector actors, development and non-profit partners, academics, among others, to discuss how to make Africa more food secure.
The forum will bring together a diverse range of speakers to showcase the possibilities and inspire commitment and action from all parties within the food systems. The AGRF Summit will provide a platform to discuss strengthening Africa’s food systems and ensure that food insecurity challenges are dealt with aptly.
This year’s AGRF Summit will explore the pathways and actions needed to steer the continent towards food systems that deliver sufficient and nutritious foods and create sustainable, dignified jobs and shared prosperity for Africa.
This year’s summit is closely aligned with the UN Food Systems Summit to raise global awareness and catalyse momentum towards the commitments made.
The AGRF Summit aims to elevate a single coordinated African voice to the UN Food Systems Summit.
It will also identify immediate actions and steps that need to be taken to accelerate progress and recovery towards inclusive agricultural transformation.
