The Board Chairperson of the Ghana Enterprises Agency is puzzled why the management affairs of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is still solely a state-owned company.
Sylvester Tetteh said transferring the administration of TOR to strategic partners is “long overdue.”
Contributing to the topic “Missing Oil at TOR” on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, the Bortinaor Ngleshie Amanfro legislator explained that the move will help revamp the crude oil refining company which has been "bedevilled with a lot of challenges".
“The issues of TOR from the days of former President Jerry John Rawlings has been on the table, and we have had serious issues with it.
“And for me, we have unofficial sources within TOR; we have friends, relatives who work in TOR, and I think that for TOR not to be functioning the level that it ought to currently, is manmade,” he told host Evans Mensah on Saturday.
Through a Technical and Human Resource audit, it has been discovered that 105,000 litres of Gas oil belonging to a BDC client is reported missing.
Also, GH¢10.4 million worth of cables have been stolen.
TOR’s Interim Management Committee has queried and interdicted some staff for their involvement in the alleged theft. Investigations are pending.
Following this revelation, the Energy Ministry says the staff involved will be prosecuted if they’re found culpable.
Meanwhile, Mr Tetteh says he has “no idea what the President will subsequently do or what recommendation the minister responsible for Energy will suggest to the President.”
