Parliament has adjourned proceedings to January 18, thereby cutting short any attempt to approve or reject the E-levy Bill.
This follows a free for all brawl last night which left some MPs injured.
The application, moved by Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, urged the House to adjourn to ensure a serene environment for the consideration of the controversial E-Levy bill.
In supporting the motion, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu disclosed that such a move will also allow for further consultations on the vexed matter of the E-levy.
Last night's proceeding was brought to a halt following fisticuffs on the floor of Parliament after the First Deputy Speaker had allegedly tried to vacate his seat for the Second Deputy Speaker in order to partake in the voting and proceedings.
However refuting such claims, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu had explained that the Bekwai MP rather wanted to excuse himself to take his medication and not to partake in the vote.
The Suame MP observed that the First Deputy Speaker’s ill health was so severe that he shook like a leaf.
Speaking to JoyNews, he said, “Is it the case that a Speaker can’t even excuse himself to visit the loo? Is it the case? The man was indisposed. He was shivering. And he went to the clinic, the record is there. So we had to persuade him to come and sit. He was in the chamber and he was shaking like a leaf.”
He added that if indeed the claims were true, such an act wouldn't have been illegal.
The Minority have, however, accused the Majority side of trying to force their parochial interests on Parliament no matter the cost.
They have since sworn to resist such actions by whatever means.
