The Medical Director of King's Hand Hospital, Dr. Kwasi Asare-Bediako has handed over a 2 unit classroom block to the Hatsukofe No.1 and No.2 Basic School in Tokor in the Ketsu South Municipality of the Volta Region.
The philanthropist financed the construction of the block after learning of the plight of students and how inadequate infrastructure was hindering academic activities in the school.
The Hotsukope Basic School was established in August 1961 in Tokor in the Ketu South Municipality with 60 learners.
It now runs a KG, Primary, and JHS with 400 pupils enrolled.
The Headmistress of Hotsukope Basic School, Ernestine Numanyo said the school records low pass rates in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
She explained that the school has some challenges, including the lack of textbooks, inadequate infrastructure, which she said affect academic activities leading to low performance.
She also appealed to the government to complete a 6-unit classroom started under the previous NDC administration.
Learning of the plight of the school, Dr. Kwasi Asare-Bediako who has been operating the King's Hand Hospital in Tokor for decades decided to help the school.
He, therefore, constructed a 2-unit classroom block furnished with tables and chairs, fans and other logistics for the school.
He detailed that the intervention was to give back to the community where he has operated his health facility for decades and pay in equal measures the love residents have exhibited towards him since he moved to Hatsukope.
The Paramount Chief of Aflao Traditional Area, Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V lauded the initiative by Dr. Asare-Bediako.
He implored other illustrious citizens to pick a cue from Dr. Asare-Bediako’s act and replicate the same to help develop the country instead of relying on the government.
He bemoaned instances where uncompleted government projects are dotted across the country, though the completion of these facilities would help lessen infrastructure burdens.
Dr. Asare-Bediako was enstooled Development Chief for Hatsukope under the stool name Torgbui Agbeshie I.
