Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has called on the general public to contribute generously towards the reconstruction of the obliterated town of Appiatse.
According to them, the call for action is needed to prevent further deterioration in the lives of people who have suffered a major setback and are currently going through a painful stage in their lives.
The Minister made the call on Tuesday afternoon, when he donated twenty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS20,000.00) to help in the reconstruction process.
He said, ‘’this should be an all hands on deck kind of contribution and together we can build this community out of our generosity and out of our collective effort without the contribution of public exchequer, and also the contribution of foreign donation so we can own the process ourselves’’.
The Minister then proceeded to present the cheque to the Chairperson of the Fund, Dr. Joyce Aryee.
Addressing the media, she promised to make judicious use of the funds and render proper account to the Ghanaian people every step of the way.
‘’This is supposed to be transparent, so we can tell you how much we really are receiving’’, she said.
Dr. Joyce Aryee went on to preempt suspicions of conspiracy theorists regarding accountability of the funds saying, ‘’there is nothing to hide. When we do make disbursements, we will let you know what those disbursements are for. There will be no scam’’; she reiterated.
The Chairperson also announced at the ceremony that the Chinese Embassy in Ghana has donated GHS50, 000 to the Fund.
