The Concerned Youth of New Patriotic Party in the Oforikrom Constituency has implored the national elections committee of the party to review its decision to retain immediate past polling station executives.

The coalition noted that the committee’s decision not to conduct polling station elections in the constituency would breed chaos and disaffection.

In a statement, they indicated that the decision would be an affront to the party’s constitution and democratic principles.

“We, the Concerned Youth of Oforikrom Constituency of NPP, are learning that the committee that is responsible for the management of the elections has taken a decision to retain all old Polling Station Executives.

“This would mean that there is not going to be contest or elections at polling stations where an old executive picked an application form,” the statement read.

The statement further revealed that about 216 previous polling station executives are no longer domiciled in their constituencies.

It indicated that the former executives have also become dormant, thus do not actively participate in party activities. Others are said to have been absent, yet their forms were filled.

“Moreover, we know for a fact that some 216 old polling station executives no longer reside in the constituency and even the region.

“We also know of some old polling station executives whose forms were filled and submitted in absentia.

“We also know for a fact that there are some old polling station executives who were basically dormant and did not participate in any party activities during their tenure,” the statement read.

Recent opening of nomination for polling station elections has been characterized by chaos and in some instances, fisticuffs.

The group expressed their discontent over the recent mismanagement of elections of polling station executives nationwide.

“No electoral area coordinator should be given the leverage to select who becomes a polling station executive in the newly created polling stations, that must be open to contest.

“There shouldn’t be mass disqualification of all new applicants seeking to become polling station executives,” the statement read.
