President Akufo-Addo has called on the various Heads of State in Africa to ensure the promotion of gender equality to break the bias.
The President said he will continue championing calls for an Africa where the existential situation of women is elevated.
In a tweet commemorating International Women’s Day on March 8, he noted that the development of the continent is hinged on the improved conditions of women as they constitute the majority of the population.
According to him, in Ghana, 51% of the population is female.
Therefore, the President stated that the empowerment of women “is one of the surest ways of rooting out poverty, and guaranteeing the progress and prosperity of our countries and continent.”

He continued: “As AU Gender Champion, I remain committed to my goal of mobilising political support to help transform Africa into an exemplary continent, where sound policies and solid programmes will successfully elevate the existential situation of women.”
This transformed Africa, President Akufo-Addo said, will free women from acts or threats of violence.
The 2022 International Women's Day was under the theme: "Break the Bias."
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has noted that for Africa to head the promotion of gender equality, its governments must "work fully with women leaders to develop solutions, and not having them trail or try to catch up with us, the men when we think we have found the solution.”
