Ghana’s Black Maidens beat Senegal with a 3-0 scoreline to book their place in the next round of the Women’s U-17 World Cup.

Second-half goals from Georgina Ayisha Aoyem, Princess Owusu and Abdulai Karima were enough to ensure a smooth passage for Baba Nuhu’s side.

The Black Maidens came into the game with a vital win, after beating the young Senegalese side away from home.

After a scoreless first half game which saw Karima miss a lot of chances, Nuhu’s side came into the last 45 minutes with the needed hunger as Aoyem opened the scoring four minutes into the second half.

Owusu doubled Ghana’s lead with a header in the 58th minute of the game to put the game beyond the reach of their West African counterparts.

Ghana were reduced to 10 after Owusu was given an early shower for a tackle on Ndeye Tida with 20 minutes to go until full time.

Karima made her opportunity count moments later, sending in a beautiful curler into the top corner of the Senegalese post to make the score 3-0 on the day and 4-0 on aggregate.

The result means the Black Maidens advance into the next round of the qualifying series, where they will face the winner of the game between Liberia and Guinea.

The seventh edition of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup finals will be held in India between 11–30 October 2022.
