The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) have expressed displeasure over their exclusion from the new Ghana Education Service (GES) Council.
They say their presence on the Council is instrumental because of the active part they take in decisions and other relevant matters about educational development in the country.
In a statement signed by leadership of both groups, they appealed to the Education Minister, Dr Yaw Adutwum to respect the roles both CCG and GCBC have played, and continue to play in the development of education in Ghana.
“We wish to bring to the attention of the Ministry of Education that the leadership of CCG and GCBC are not happy about the decision to inaugurate a new Ghana Education Service (GES) Council without representation from the Council and Conference.
“We, therefore, wish to state that all critical decisions that are taken on education should be done through consensus building with stakeholders like Faith Based Organisations, ” parts of the statement noted.
Universal guidelines for secondary schools
Leadership of the groups further disclosed that they have received a draft document that spells out guidelines for all secondary schools in the country.
“We wish to state emphatically that the Faith Based Organisations which play pivotal role in education in Ghana have not been officially notified about any document containing guidelines for Secondary School Education in Ghana,” they added.
They appealed to the Education Minister to expedite action and ensure that a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the Ministry and the Missions is signed.
“Moreover, we wish to state that no guideline for secondary school education should replace the MoU, which both the Missions and the Ministry have put together.”
