An official at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Richard Frimpong, has died in an accident after his vehicle plunged into the Boti River.
The accident is said to have occurred on Saturday on the Akyem Oda-Nkwanta road in the Eastern Region.
The deceased is reported to be the second-in-command for GRA, Akyem Oda Division.
According to eyewitnesses, the GRA top official was driving a Benz saloon car from Akyem Ntronang after visiting his family and was heading towards Akyem Oda.
But his car veered off the road and plunged into the river.
The witnesses revealed that although some residents quickly rushed to the scene to rescue him, he was retrieved unconsciously.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed on him, but he was still not responsive.
He was subsequently rushed to the emergency ward of the Akyem Oda Government Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
The cause of the accident is unknown.
Meanwhile, his body is being kept at the morgue.
