The Employment and Labour Relations Ministry will today Monday, November 7, meet with the three striking teacher unions – the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, (CCT ) – over the appointment of a banker as the Director-General (D-G) of the Ghana Education Service.
The unions embarked on the action on Friday, November 4, “until further notice.”
The President of GNAT, Isaac Owusu at a presser stated that since the inception of the Ghana Education Service, 17 D-Gs have been appointed and all of them were educationists, as such, the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah as the D-G defies the norm.

The Labour Ministry is expected to engage with them today. Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Bright Wereko-Brobby is confident that an amicable agreement will be reached.
“This is a matter we can sit and discuss. So I am optimistic that nothing untoward will happen. The issues that they have raised will be looked at and will be resolved by Monday after we meet.”
