Chairman of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi says he has no knowledge about any meeting between President Akufo-Addo and the Majority Caucus over the dismissal of Ken Ofori-Atta.
Some 89 NPP MPs in October held a press conference to demand the sacking of Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta for what they say is the mismanagement of the country’s economy.
Shortly after they announced their demand, President Akufo-Addo is reported to have called the Majority MPs to a meeting at the Flagstaff House and appealed to them to allow Mr. Ofori-Atta to conclude the IMF negotiations and present the 2023 Budget before he takes any action.
Speaking on The Probe, Sunday, the NPP MP denied knowledge of any such meeting.
“I am not aware that we have met the President on this. Apart from not being part of that meeting, I am not aware of any meeting,” he said.
This is inspite of the fact the the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu issued a statement that informed the general public about the outcome of the meeting. Key among the outcome was the fact the President Akufo-Addo asked the NPP MPs to hold their horses until after the IMF negotiations and the 2023 Budget has been presented.
It would also be recalled that when the NPP MPs called for the sacking of Ofori-Atta, Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu disclosed to JoyNews' Evans Mensah that a wealthy businessman held a meeting with the NPP MPs so they could back down on their demand.
“I’m told on authority that some businessman came here and tried to do something,” he said.
However, Mr. Anyimadu-Antwi said he is unaware of any mediation by a wealthy businessman.
“I am not aware that we met any businessman,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ofori-Atta has survived a censure motion by the Minority members to dismiss him from office.
However, the President is yet to act on the demand of the NPP MPs who called for Ofori-Atta’s dismissal since the IMF negotiations are still ongoing although the Budget has been presented.
